year, most seeking to relieve nagging symptoms, but everyone is
concerned that they survive this transition in a healthy state
Menopause
Menopause is the end of menstruation. Commonly used
to refer to the period ending the female reproductive phase of life
(climacteric). Menses stops naturally with the decline of monthly
hormonal cycles between ages 40 and 60. It may stop earlier in life
as a result of illness or the surgical removal of the uterus or both
ovaries. As the production of estrogen by the ovaries and pituitary
gonad-stimulating hormones decreases, ovulation and menstruation
happen less often and eventually stop. Variations in the circulating
levels of the hormones occur as the levels decline. Hot flashes are
the only general symptom of menopause that nearly every woman has.
They can often be controlled with estrogen and progesterone but are
seldom so bad as to need therapy. Hot flashes will stop in time
without hormonal treatment. Occasionally, heavy irregular bleeding
occurs at this time, usually linked to fiberlike tumors or other
uterine disorders.
Menopause can last as long as 15 years. Does it not
make sense to discover your menopause type in order to effectively
diminish any uncomfortable symptoms from your type of menopause over
this lengthy time period.
Menopause is a
target health issue in the 5Steps to Total
Health Program. We strongly recommend that attention be
given also to the first 4 steps in order to maximize health.
