Headaches
Headache is a pain in the head
from any cause. Kinds of headaches include functional headache,
migraine headache, organic headache, sinus headache, and tension
headache. Also called cephalalgia.
A migraine headache is a
throbbing headache, usually occurring on only one side of the head.
It is marked by severe pain, sensitivity to light, and other
disturbances during the first phase. Attacks may last for hours or
days. The disorder occurs more often in women than in men. The
chances that a patient will have migraines may appear to be
inherited. The exact cause for the disorder is not known. The head
pain is related to widening of blood vessels, which may be the
result of chemical changes that cause spasms of the vessels.
Allergic reactions, excess carbohydrates, alcohol, bright lights, or
loud noises can begin attacks. A migraine may begin with sensations
called auras. These may be seeing disturbances, such as flashing
lights or wavy lines, or a strange taste or odor. Other disturbances
are tingling, dizziness, ringing in the ears, or a feeling that part
of the body is distorted in size or shape. The first phase may also
include nausea, vomiting, chills, excess urination, sweating,
swollen face, irritability, and extreme tiredness. After an attack,
the patient often has dull head and neck pains and a great need for
sleep.
A tension headache includes a
pain that affects the back (occipital) region of the body as the
result of overwork or emotional strain. It tenses the body and
blocks rest and relaxation.
Notes: Chronic headaches are the oldest
type of persistent ailment on record. They are often tied to food
and environmental allergies. Headaches are a result of muscles
spasms throughout the vascular system as a reaction to a toxin or
allergen. Further, migraines can be related to an inflammatory
condition set off by an immune response as the immune system
responds to a virus, bacterium, parasite, or carcinogen traveling
through the blood stream. Following the 3 rules of health can
greatly reduce the number of headaches one will experience. The 3
rules of health are: 1) stop putting toxins in the body; 2) get the
toxins that are circulating or stored in the tissues out of the
body; and 3) build up the immune system so that the body can deal
with the foreign cells before they affect the daily balance,
